AbleLink Technologies

Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTACs)
The regional DBTACs provide training, information, and technical assistance on the ADA and accessible information technology (IT) to businesses, consumers, schools, and government agencies. The regional DBTACs were established by NIDRR. Members of the regional DBTACs have agreed to partner with the RERC to assist with recruitment for studies and to disseminate project information.

Georgia Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation Program
Georgia’s Vocational Rehabilitation Program operates 53 strategically located “hub” offices which provide a wide range of services to help people with disabilities prepare for, start, and maintain competitive employment. Services for employers focus on access to a dependable source of qualified employees, as well as workplace consultations that increase their knowledge about successfully employing people with disabilities.

The Mature Market Institute is Metlife’s information and policy resource center on issues related to aging, retirement, long-term care and the 50+ marketplace. Staffed by gerontologists, the Institute provides research, training, and consultation to support MetLife, its corporate customers and business partners. Working with academic institutions, it commissions studies to analyze trends related to the aging of America and its application to business.

Microsoft
Microsoft’s Accessible Technology Group has been providing accessible technology for people with disabilities for nearly two decades. A new focus of the company is to evaluate the computer market for people who are aging to ensure that they have access to technology at home and at work. Microsoft hopes to identify technology needs and design strategies and tactics.

NISH
NISH is a national nonprofit agency whose mission is to create employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities and to train these individuals for jobs in competitive employment by securing Federal contracts through the AbilityOne (formerly JWOD) Program. NISH has a network of more than 600 affiliated community-based, nonprofit agencies located throughout the U.S., including Atlanta, Denver, and Pittsburgh. NISH also hosts the National Engineering Design Challenge, which is a contest for high school students to build technologies that tear down barriers to employment for people with disabilities.

RERC on Communication Enhancement (AAC-RERC)
The AAC-RERC at Duke University Medical Center conducts a comprehensive program of research, development, training, and dissemination that addresses NIDRR priorities and seeks to improve technologies for individuals who rely on AAC. The mission of the AAC RERC is to assist people who rely on AAC to achieve their goals by advancing and promoting AAC technologies and support the individuals who use, manufacture, and recommend them.

RERC on Universal Design in the Built Environment (UD-RERC)
The UD-RERC is a partnership between the IDEA Center at the University of Buffalo and the Ontario Rehabilitation Technology Consortium. The Center is conducting research and developing critical tools for advancing the field of UD and applying those tools to develop exemplar products and places. Education and dissemination activities are increasing awareness of UD as well as improving capacity in research and practice.

Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Employment Policy for Persons with Disabilities
The Employment Policy RRTC is a collaboration between multiple departments at Cornell, including the Employment and Disability Institute, Department of Policy Analysis and Management, and the Institute for Policy Research. This Center increases the employment and economic self-sufficiency of people with disabilities and contributes to the success of the transition from caretaker to economic self-sufficiency policies.

Walgreens Co.
Walgreens Co. is building new distribution centers throughout the U.S. that will employ people with disabilities. The first of these state-of-the-art centers is in Anderson, SC, and will employ almost 600 people, with at least one-third of the jobs filled by people with disabilities. Currently, 48% of the Anderson employees have a disability. Accommodations used in the Anderson facility include disability awareness training, on-the-job training with a job coach, participation in a transitional work group, visual aids, written instructions, and AT as needed.
